Severe COVID 19 Linked to Reactivation of Some Dormant Viruses, Study Finds Researchers have identified another layer of complexity in understanding COVID 19.
A recent study published in Nature analyzed over 200,000 biological samples from hospitalized patients with severe COVID 19 and found a disturbing pattern: within the first 40 days after hospital admission, these patients experienced reactivation of 11 different dormant viruses.
Among the reactivated viruses were several herpes viruses – Epstein Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, and herpes simplex virus 1 – which are normally inactive in healthy individuals but can reactivate during periods of illness or stress.
